The Brief
This stunning Scandia-Hus kitchen was installed in a house in Sevenoaks. We were recommended to the home owners by some past clients and were lucky enough to get involved early on in the project. The basic footprint for the house was designed but the finer details for the kitchen space were left to us to fine tune to create the perfect space for our clients.
They wanted to retain the beautiful feeling of space and whilst they wanted a big kitchen, they were keen that it sat sympathetically within the space rather than dominating it. With loads of natural light cascading from both ends of the open plan living space we could afford to be quite bold with dark colours to give the kitchen a very strong, striking appearance.
Itโs a โwowโ kind of a space, so it needs a โwowโ kind of a kitchen.
The Design
We settled on an elegant, minimalist theme with handle-less cabinetry. In terms of layout we wanted to create two distinct zones within the kitchen. A hard working โcooking sideโ which would house the ovens, hob, refrigerator and sink. And then a more relaxed area, where people could congregate without getting in the way of the cook!
The Scandia-Hus kitchen design centred around a large island with the venting Bora hob. We also included seating for four people along with lots of storage and a nice LED illuminated open shelving feature.
The main run of appliances includes two ovens, a Fisher and Paykell French Door fridge freezer, dishwasher and Quooker boiling tap.
On the opposite side of the kitchen we included a wine fridge, further storage and a bespoke open shelving unit which acts as a partial screen upon entering the kitchen.
How it worked out
Set within such a stunning property, we wanted to create a kitchen that would do this beautiful house justice. The striking colour scheme of dark grey, vintage Oak and Caesarstone Organic White quartz seems to fit perfectly. Itโs big and itโs bold but it is also very timeless and in the way the elements all come together.
On a practical level, the kitchen works very well too. Often with big kitchens they can become disjointed, with appliances and functionality spread out across the space. This kitchen avoids that by keeping the cooking side highly functional, simple tasks like unloading the dishwasher are easy as there is so much storage just a step away.
We love this kitchen and canโt wait to see what the owners think after living with it for a whileโฆ
