The brief
Our clients were remodelling the ground floor of their house and in doing so planned to move the kitchen to the back of the property to make the most of the wonderful views. In addition to relocating the kitchen, they also planned to open-up the space to the dining room and lounge. The kitchen needed to handle the demands of a young family, have American refrigeration, boiling water tap, induction hob as well as ample storage. Oh, and not forgetting a large island with seating for 4!
The design
Having the opportunity to work with our clients early on in the project gave us a chance to ensure the kitchen space was large enough to incorporate the tall unit bank, sink run and the island. A few centimetres can make a big difference in whether or not something is possible and in this case we were lucky enough to be able to tweak the exact position of the side wall to achieve the exact kitchen our clients wanted.
With this detail worked out the rest of the kitchen layout fell nicely into place. The sink run formed a simple right angle with the tall unit bank allowing the island to take centre stage. And what a great island it is! As well as housing the hob, down draft extractor, two large pan drawers, the bin and lots of cupboard space there’s also seating for four.
How it worked out
This kitchen is a great example of a contemporary, family orientated kitchen. Everything in it just ‘works’. The beautifully simple, handle-less cabinetry hides a world of functionality and features. Whilst the island sits impressively within the space, creating the family hub our clients wanted. It’s a lovely space, set against a beautiful backdrop. What more could you wish for?
Maybe some lovely shelves for the adjoining lounge? Don’t worry, we did those two!
