The Brief
Create an extremely functional kitchen with a luxurious feel — all within the compact confines of a 16th-century property. Layer in beautiful materials and make the very best use of every inch of available space.
The Design
The starting point for this kitchen was a very long wish list:
- two ovens
- a coffee machine
- a steam oven
- full-height fridge and freezer
- induction and gas hobs
- boiling tap
- main tap
- wine fridge
- robot vacuum cupboard
- glass display units
- and more!
We began by carefully analysing the space to see how we could make it all work. The final design centred around a peninsula layout, which allowed us to include everything while retaining a lovely open area for the dining table.
A tall bank of cabinetry handled most of the appliances, while the peninsula and along with the other worktops accommodated the hobs and sink — striking a perfect balance between prep space and versatile storage.
To add drama and efficiency, we created a stunning two-tier wall unit system that wraps around the kitchen, complete with recessed lighting to further enhance the mood and atmosphere.
The finishing touches included beautiful fluted walnut veneer, Taj Mahal quartzite worktops, and matt lacquer cabinetry — all combining to create a space that feels both refined and welcoming.
How It Worked Out
Without doubt, this kitchen was one of the most technically challenging projects we’ve ever undertaken. The level of detail and the intricacy of the space planning tested the team’s skills to the limit — and they loved (and occasionally hated!) every moment of it.
Achieving this level of precision in a 16th-century property, with all its rustic charm and uneven walls, made the end result even more impressive.
The finished kitchen is truly remarkable. It’s one of our best — not only from a technical standpoint, but also in how it looks and feels. The space is dynamic, characterful, and beautifully balanced.
